Calendula Salve, 1 oz
Calendula Salve, 1 oz
Our 1 oz salves come in a to-go, lightweight container.
Calendula has a long history as a health promoting agent. It is traditionally used for wound healing. Here is an excerpt from Rachel Weaver's book Backyard Pharmacy in the chapter on Calendula: "In World War I, Dr. Petrie Hoyle used calendula almost exclusively for treating wounds in a front-line hospital. He found that it prevented pus from forming. His wards were known for their absence of smell and very clean wounds. He received praise for rapid cure of all kinds of septic (infected) wounds among his soldiers."
Calendula has also been used for all kinds of fungal infections like athlete's foot, for varicose veins, and even skin eruptions or lesions caused by herpes and other viruses. This is another excerpt from the book Backyard Pharmacy: "The Romans, who called calendula verrucaria, the wart-curing plant, noticed that skin eruption of a periodic nature, like herpes and warts, were effectively cured by the plant."
Ours is a soothing beeswax salve made with the oil produced using freshly picked Calendula flowers and buds from our garden.
Our salves follow the Greek home remedy tradition of the olive oil-beeswax salve that the lady of the house used to make and keep handy in the home as an all-purpose healing salve. The olive oil nourishes and heals and the beeswax helps to create a barrier that locks in moisture.
